Many of you know how much I covet Remember the Milk. It’s been my Go-To app for years, keeping me focused on my priority tasks for each day. It’s still fantastic, but now there’s something even better. (And I don’t say that lightly. It’s actually kinda sad for me. RTM has been a loyal best friend.)
Meet Asana.
Led by Dustin Moskovitz, a co-founder, CTO, and VP of Engineering at Facebook, Asana aims to revolutionize how teams get things done. Simply put, it’s the most incredible tool I’ve seen for combining individual and team project management. And isn’t everything we do these days a project?
Watch this.
Pretty amazing, right?
Here’s more about how you can use it for individual task management.
Am I the only GTD’er celebrating that now there’s a tool built just for me?
I know. You’re wondering how much it costs. That was my first thought too.
Get this. It’s free for teams of up to 30 people (in each workspace).
I’ve only been using it a week, and I’m loving the attention to detail with the interface.
– Using colons to break out sub-projects
– Being able to view tasks by person so I can see what others are focused on
– Tags (and private tags)
It’s like the iPad of Project Management. You just pick it up and start using it. There’s no need for complicated instructions.
Here’s another video just for teams.
And in case you’re wondering, I’m not an affiliate for Asana (although I’d love to be) and there’s still a few tweaks I’d love to see:
– Be able to view tasks across all workspaces
– Be able to auto-repeat certain tasks
– Enhanced mobile app
Those are all already on the Requested Features list, so I hope we’ll see them soon.
Enough reading. Go try it out for yourself. It’s like an early Christmas.
Will I still need to use Evernote or can this replace Evernote as well?
Great question. Evernote is still an important tool for me. It’s basically my electronic filing cabinet, with everything I want to keep tagged and organized for quick access.
So far, Asana has replaced Remember the Milk and many yellow notepads. It basically integrates my Active Projects List and everything related to it. It also replaces a lot of email in that my communication with my teams stays inside it.
Interested in this. Is it an nvite only beta at the moment as I can’t seem to log in to it.
Hi Gordon –
It was in private beta for a while, but it opened up a few weeks ago. When I go to Asana.com, I still see the Sign Up form to get started. I don’t see any sort of country restrictions. Let me know if you’re still having troubles, and I’ll reach out to them on Twitter.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Kendra
I’m considering moving from RTM to Asana. Are you still using Asana after 7 months?
Cheers
Mark
Great question. I actually use both extensively: RTM for personal task management on a daily basis, and Asana to plan out larger projects and/or work with my teams. The mobile apps for both are significantly better now as well.
