When I moved into my new office at the Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center, I decided I wanted to do something different. I thought about a treadmill desk. But after comparing expenses and levels of complexity, I decided a standing desk would be a better start. My pals at 3eWerks took the challenge, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

Want one?

For less than $125 and a trip to Ikea, you can have one too.

The design is very simple. The base consists of two Omar shelving units, and the top is a Vika Amon table top.

The First Day

Two hours in, and I’m already feeling the difference. I just wrapped up a 20 minute Skype call, and I did feel slightly out of breath at the end. I also feel it in my back, though that could be the Turkish Get-Ups I did this morning or a sign that I don’t have the height exactly right.

I’ll experiment for a few days and tweak it as we go. I think the first change will be to raise my monitor to more of an eye level.

Your Ideas?

So, what do you think? Do you have an idea for an unconventional desk or work environment? Or do you have any suggestions for what I could do to improve mine?
